ARLINGTON, Texas—You’ve got to admit, when the cops come knocking at your door, it’s not always for a good thing.

But watch out Santa Claus! The Santa Cops are making their rounds.

On Christmas Eve, the Arlington Police Association, the Mayor, and a couple of little helpers brought a bit of cheer to more than a dozen families who’ve had a hard time getting gifts this holiday.

“Cops have gotten a bad rap, all across the country. Our cops do this every year for kids without hope, and that’s where we’re going today,” Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck said.  “[We’re] trying to help them have a better Christmas.”

APA hands out gifts to nearly 1,200 kids before the holidays.

When it comes to these special deliveries, nominations for families needing extra help and donations made it happen.

Four-year-old Adara squealed with excitement when she opened her stuffed unicorn and Elsa paint set.

A Merry Christmas almost didn’t happen for Adara’s family.  Someone snatched these kids’ gifts right off their front porch.

“We had ordered a Playstation 4, and some play-doh stuff,” grandmother Shelley O’Neal said.  “It came early, like 5 or 6 days early, and somebody signed for the package, we don’t know who, there was no camera on the truck.  Therefore, it was stolen. We didn’t have an extra $700 to get another one.  It’s hard.”

But the Grinch didn’t steal Christmas this time!

“Just to see their face when they thought they weren’t going to have anything.  I’m overwhelmed,” O’Neal said.  “It means a lot.”

“It’s awesome,” APA President Sgt. Becki Brandenburg said.   “This is the best day of the year for us.  It is the most rewarding thing that we do in the police association.  The relationships that we can build with little kids when we’re in uniform is priceless.”
