Patriots Tweet N-Word, Suffer Serious Social Media FAIL

This probably hurts worse than losing a big game — or it should. The New England Patriots decided to celebrate being the first NFL team to hit one million Twitter followers by creating custom ‘digital jerseys’ for fans who followed and tweeted with the hashtag #1MillionPatriots. The custom tweet even had Rob Gronkowski’s digital autograph. Pretty cool.

But then… someone altered the spelling of a racial slur and tweeted with the hashtag.  Not cool.

Apparently, filters and humans alike didn’t catch the altered spelling of the n-word (image altered for this website) and the digital jersey image was posted on the Patriots’ Twitter feed, lighting up the Twitterverse.

Patriots Tweet Racial Slur Altered

“We apologize for the regrettable tweet that went out from our account. Our filtering system failed & we will be more vigilant in the future.”

That’s about all the Pats could say.

But you have to smile at those asking the question, “@Patriots, do I still get a jersey?”

Hail to the true fans!

Our deepest condolences to those who may be looking for a new job because of all this.
