ARLINGTON, TX - Say hello to the new sheriff of the Texas Rangers!

The club officially introduced Jeff Banister Friday as the new Rangers manager. He’s stepping up to the plate to replace Ron Washington, who rode out of town suddenly in September.

“We show up to play, we show up to win,” said Banister, “I'm ready to go to work.”

Banister is a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirate -- most recently the team’s bench coach.

He’s got some true grit to him. He’s beaten cancer and was paralyzed for ten days after a home plate collision in junior college.

Banister overcame it all and fought all the way to the Majors. He only got one at bat, but he legged out an infield single.

“I understand perseverance, I understand what hard work means” said the new manger, “That pain is one of those things that we`re given that let`s us know that we`re alive from time to time.”

Well hopefully this time next year the Rangers will be alive and playing some playoff baseball.
