VALLEY RANCH --The Cowboys are ready for their season opener, and they’re squaring off against their old rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. Here’s everything you need to know about what some consider to be one of the greatest rivalries in NFL history.

The Cowboys and 49ers go back to the very beginning. Dallas’ first ever game was the 1960 pre-season opener against San Fran. In the 54 years since, the match up has been as dead even as possible: both teams have five Super Bowl trophies; in 33 head-to--head match ups, the teams are tied with 16 wins a piece, with one tie.

Some of the best players in NFL history have donned both jerseys. Pro Bowlers like Charles Haley, Ken Norton Jr., Deion Sanders and Terrell Owens.

The teams have met in six NFC Championship games, and the ‘Boys hold a 4 to 2 advantage in those. It’s been almost twenty years since the last one, though, so its safe to say that the glory days of this feud are behind us… but that doesn’t mean it’s been forgotten.

“As long as they beat the Niners, [Dallas] can go 8-8, but they’ve got to beat the Niners,” one Cowboys fan said.

You heard ‘em ‘Boys. Go take care of business and let’s party like it’s 1993.
