VALLEY RANCH, TX -- Why is this Cowboys practice different from other practices at Valley Ranch? Well, it's Michael Sam's debut in silver and blue, and it sounds like he is more than welcome on the team.

“Everyone's got different politics, religion, you know views on things,” said quarterback Tony Romo. "I think what you find is that when you get into the locker room no one cares.”

The NFL’s first openly gay player was signed to the practice squad of America’s Team Wednesday and he had strong words for those who don’t think he has the talent to make an NFL roster.

“I hope people question my speed so on game day they see me running fast and their like oh I was wrong about that guy,” Sam said.

Sam’s position as a defensive end has been a rough spot for the Cowboys recently.

“We feel like he has a chance to come in at a position that we’ve really tried to address throughout the off-season and throughout training camp and to compete for a spot,” said head coach Jason Garrett.

Sam wasn’t the only Cowboy who won’t be taking the field Sunday that was still making news.

Josh Brent was reinstated but suspended for the fist 10 games of the season. Brent is the player who drove 110 mph drunk and crashed his car, killing teammate and friend Jerry Brown.

“I know his teammates have been supportive, we wanted to make sure that as an organization and as a coaching staff support him,” Garrett said. “It’s a very, very difficult situation to deal with as anyone can imagine.”

So, how about them Cowboys making big news today? But as usual, not for anything happening on the field.
