That Tex-Mex craving could be hard to beat and for over 40 years Herrera’s Cafe on Maple Avenue has been filling up the hearts and tummies of Dallas residents.

But that’s all about to change. The Ontiveros family will close their doors on Monday. Looks like a Maple Ave. address is becoming too pricey!

“We’re sad but we’re just gonna move on and open another one at another location and my father in law always said as long as you have the food the way it’s supposed to be you will have people coming in,” said Nora Ontiveros, Herrera’s Café owner.

But this isn’t the first time they face a challenge on Maple. They’ve moved a total of three times over the past 44 years, every time finding a new location on the original street.

The Ontiveros have been told the building will be torn down to make room for new developments.

Luckily for Tex-Mex aficionados, the other Herrera’s locations near Love Field, Mockingbird Station and in Denton will remain open.

“I sure hope something will happen because Dallas would lose a landmark almost,” said Julie Howard, a loyal Herrera’s customer.

Looks like “regulars” at Herrera’s will have to wait and see where the mom and pop restaurant will pop up next!

“This is not good-bye, this is not adios. Hasta luego,” said Ontiveros.
