On this day in 1982, NYC hosted the opening of this movie conceived by Roger Waters and featuring Bob Geldof, who almost didn’t take his role in the film because he was afraid these wouldn’t grow back after he removed them in real time during filming. And on this day in 1988, this rock band’s debut album made its way to #1 on the charts after 57 weeks — it would go on to become the biggest debut album for a rock band in the U.S.
