MARLIN, TX — It’s time for “Cops Say the Darndest Things”… social media edition.

Apparently, there are some officers out there who just don’t know when it’s time to log off and shut up.

Exhibit Numero Uno: Detective Rob Douglas from Marlin, that’s near Waco, is reportedly on administrative leave because of a Facebook rant about welfare recipients. We’ll spare you the whole thing, but the post talks about seeing lazy people on welfare at the local market on the first of the month.

It ends — “If I ever snap and go on a killing spree, it will be in a supermarket on the first.”

First rule of social media: think before you post.

UPDATE: From Post to Pink Slip: Cop Fired for Facebook Rant

Exhibit Numero Dos: In Rosenberg, Texas, the police department posted a picture with the caption, “Let’s let God back in our schools” and asked followers to share of they agreed.

That got some church and state peeps peeved and now that post is history.

Hmmm… maybe officers in the Lone Star should stay on the beat, instead of online.
