Zoo Besties Cheetah & Labrador Celebrate First Birthday
DALLAS –The Dallas Zoo celebrated a special birthday for two of its unlikely inhabitants — best friends Winspear the cheetah and Amani the Labrador.  The pairing may sound like and odd couple. Yet, the animals have spent their first year of their lives together, without any issues.

“They’re best buds,” Sean Green said. Green is the Vice President of Guest Experiences at the Dallas Zoo.

“A lot of people have said ‘how does that work?’ To be honest with you, since about two-three months of age they’ve been paired up together.”

On Thursday, they both turned one year old. So, how did these two celebrated their birthday? With two cakes of course.

“It’s over 40-gallons of water and weighs over 200-pounds,” Aaron Bussell said. Bussell is the Animal Nutrition Supervisor of the Dallas Zoo.

If you’re sad you missed out on the treats, don’t be. The cake was strictly for the birthday besties.

“For flavoring, we add[ed] a little bit of milk and a little bit of chicken broth. Something they can both enjoy,” Bussell said.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if zoo-goers have a favorite, because there’s no competition between these two when it comes to friendship.
