Nine Years In the Making: NASA Releases Stunning New Hubble Image

HOUSTON, TX- This NASA image is more than just out of this world. It’s also what the agency calls one of the most colorful deep space images ever captured by the Hubble telescope.

And this isn’t your typical space pic. It was nine years in the making, created during nearly 850 orbits of the earth from 2003 to 2012.

So what are we looking at, exactly?

About 10,000 galaxies, according to NASA, going back to within a few hundred million years of the big bang.

And Arizona State University researcher Roger Windhorst says the image “reaches the faintness of one firefly as seen from the distance of the moon.”
