Rick Perry thought he was having a lengthy conversation about coal and other matters with Ukraine’s prime minister earlier this month, but… nah.

The Trump Administration Energy Secretary and former Texas Governor turned himself into a national laughing stock back in 2011 when, during a debate between contenders for the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination, he forgot mid-sentence the name of a government agency he was planning to close down if elected president.

And there have been plenty of other Rick Perry gaffs (long before DWTS 😑 ), but he’s not the only one to fall victim to the phony phone calls. Elton John was pranked by the same group in 2015, being led to believe he was on the phone with Russian president Vladimir Putin. The pair of pranksters claiming responsibility is famous for calling and duping Russian and Ukrainian celebrities for TV.

Energy Department spokeswoman Shaylyn Hynes confirmed Perry’s conversation took place, saying in a statement that these individuals are known for pranking high-level officials and celebrities, particularly those who are supportive of an agenda that is not in line with their governments.
