DALLAS - The polls were all over the place for the election and some were pretty far from reality. But if you really want to know how things are going, check out the NewsFix Turkey Index. We're measuring the state of the plates given by the Salvation Army.
The Turkey Index shows, over the past few years, the number of people being served has been up and down. In 2014 there were about 2,300 plates served. 2015, 1,800 meals. This year they expect around 2,000 turkey dinners to hit the table.
One trend the Salvation Army is seeing is that families are all showing up to eat together.
"We are seeing groups of eight, ten, twelve coming in. I mean the grandparents, the aunts and uncles, the children all coming together for their Thanksgiving celebration. Again to keep that family tradition alive," said Jeff Upperman, a Salvation Army spokesman.
So the polls show maybe we need to count our blessings and hope for a few blessings for those around us.
