If you’re anything like me, I take my family get-togethers in small doses.
While I may be returning home for the holidays this year, there’s no doubt about it that my Thanksgiving will play out something like this: eat, sleep, party.
And if you’re lucky enough, MAYBE — just maybe — you’ve got someone in your family that you actually like to kick it with. Even if not, maybe you’ll have some friends around. Here are six things going down in DFW on Thanksgiving night.
Ice Skating Panthers
No, you won’t see any ice skating panthers, but you can skate at Panther Island Ice. Fort Worth’s only outdoor skating rink is open seven days a week and guarantees some total chilled out fun.
When: 11 am-11 pm now through Jan. 16. Coyote Drive-In, 223 NE 4th St., Fort Worth.
Light it Up
Once you get through Thanksgiving, it’s nothing but twinkle lights and gift giving until the new year. Join the tradition at Prairie Lights by coming out on opening night and seeing the spectacular wonderland come alive — all 4 million lights along two miles of path.
When: 6 pm daily through Jan. 1, 2017. Lynn Creek Park, 5700 Lake Ridge Pkwy., Grand Prairie.
You may not be able to make it to both, but the Texas Motor Speedway opening lights ceremony is just as popular. The 1.5 mile light park has over 500 light displays, with portions benefiting local charities in North Texas.
When: 6-10 pm daily Thanksgiving-Dec. 30. Texas Motor Speedway, 3545 Lone Star Circle, Fort Worth.
Price: $25 per car.
Brian at Night
Were you lucky to snag a ticket? There might still be a few available, but I’d call right now. Brian McKnight is back at one — 1st Avenue, to be precise. He’ll be performing his signature hits and new jams at Music Hall at Fair Park.
When: 8 pm. Music Hall at Fair Park, 909 1st Ave., Dallas.
Price: SOLD OUT. Contact box office for available tickets.
Nashville-based Dallas native Troy Cartright will be back in town to play some his signature country jams on Thanksgiving night.
When: 9 pm. Billy Bob’s Texas, 2520 Rodeo Plaza, Fort Worth.
Party Like Rockstars
If you want to get wild and out, let’s do it, grandma. I don’t know if I’d bring my grandma to this, but maybe — she is a party animal! It all goes down from 10 am-4 pm Thanksgiving Night when Onyx transforms into the ultimate party scene. Don’t forget to pre-order that bottle service!
When: 10 pm. Onyx 2.0. 2151 Manana Drive, Dallas.
Price: Call for reservations.
