DALLAS -- When you think of a duke, that picture in your head probably doesn't include loneliness at the dog shelter.
"Duke spent a little over a month in the dog shelter, and he just wasn't being picked up on the adoption floor, so they listed him as urgent," said Dallas Pets Alive! Marketing Director Haley Edman.
They quickly found he was a right proper Lab-Doberman, sitting when asked and shaking hands right inside his Dallas Animal Services kennel. He wasn't without his troubles, though.
"They feared that he had some trauma to the head, which caused his teeth to rot a little bit," Edman said.
Don't worry fans of The Walking Dead. We're not talking Negan-style head trauma!
The bad teeth are gone now, and look at that face!
"Despite being nine years old, Duke is super active," Edman said. "He likes going on long walks, and he actually hikes with his foster family."
He's smart too!
"Duke's parents have this tassel on the door that he rings anytime he wants a treat or he has to do his business," Edman said.
And just like any other fine nobleman, Duke needs his attention!
"Duke's foster family actually nicknamed him Space Invader because when he wants attention he's going to get it by putting himself between you and whatever else you're doing at the time," Edman said.
As you see, it would please the kingdom to make Duke the royal of your realm!
