DALLAS -- Beards and beer seem to go hand in hand. Now, imagine putting them together in a calendar. What a great combination to raise money for a good cause!
The "Beerds" 2017 calendar is "kind of a brewery budoir," said DirtBags Charities co-founder David Clark. "Imagine a bunch of nice, hairy type guys with beards."
While the beer industry isn't always lucrative, "We do get to rally people behind the beer and use the beer as a method to not only bring people together, but bring people together for a good cause," said Braindead Brewery co-owner Sam Wynne.
Wynne and Clark both told NewsFix that NMSS is close to their hearts because of the impact multiple sclerosis has on the lives of many people around the country.
"What we like about the National MS Society is, that they're not just looking for a cure. They're looking for ways to help people with ms. You can't beat a charity like that, " said Clark.
The "Beerds" calendar is such a hot commodity, it's expected to raise about $40,000 this year in sales in North Texas alone. There have also already been pre-orders in 15 states! The guys are looking to possibly do similar shoots and calendars next year in Austin, Houston, California, and Coloroado.
"It's been blowin' up! People are excited. Obviously, the beer community thinks it's fun and funny," said Wynne.
While the guys don't expect to put any firefighters and their flashy, well-known calendars out of business, Clark believes it's a great opportunity, "It's just a different kind of physique that we're supporting. I think the firefighters still have their thing going just fine, but we're giving the other guy a chance. Let's put it that way."
