The Munster Mansion Brings The TV Home Into Reality

WAXAHACHIE, TX — Straight off your TV screen and into real life! Yeah, the Munster Mansion in Waxahachie is as close as you can get to stepping inside the classic show, and the whole house, inside and out, is a perfect recreation.

“We restored an old house in town and we decided to build a new house but I didn’t want a “new” house,” said the owner Sandra McKee. “And I was joking with my husband about building the Munster house and he said, ‘you know baby we could do that.’ So once he said that I ran with it as fast as I could… we didn’t have any blueprints, we didn’t have anything so I watched all 70 episodes over and over and over and over.”

And it’s led to this. The mansion comes with all the trappings, too, from Grandpa Munster’s basement laboratory to the family’s pet dragon under the staircase.

Best of all, this Halloween season, the mansion is open to the public for their annual charity event, which this year goes to support the Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center.

“Our charity event this year is October 21st and 22nd, this will be Pat Priest, who is Marilyn Munster’s last year to come out and visit,” McKee said. “You do tours of the house but there’s also a lot of free things outside that you can do.”
