DALLAS -- As Hurricane Matthew makes his way toward the U.S., a few organizations in DFW are doing what they can to help.

Starting with the American Red Cross. They'll have teams positioned on the ground and others that will come into Florida later. They're providing everything from damage assessment, shelter, mental health services and most importantly -- hope!

"The fact that you can play some small part in somebody's recovery is really meaningful," explained Red Cross volunteer Dan Haliburton. "It's a lot of work, but you know, you want to go back every day because you know there are people that need help."

Oncor is also on board. Thursday morning, thousands of staff members headed East to provide assistance to areas that go without power because of the storm.
