The weekend is upon us on once again! Time to leave the work week behind and head out for some fun and adventure. Here are five events to check out this weekend:

You’ve waited and it’s finally here! Fall in love all over again with characters like Benny and Maureen, and sing along to your favorite songs during the 20th Anniversary Tour of RENT at the Winspear Opera House. This is the last weekend to catch it. Ready to go? Buy your tickets here.

Now through Oct. 23: State Fair of Texas Opening Weekend

No debate here – Neon #bigtex is ready for Friday!

This is the grand opening weekend for the beloved State Fair of Texas. The fair opens Friday, Sept. 30 and runs until Oct. 23. The fair is open all day long, so there’s plenty of time to grab a funnel cake, ride the Ferris wheel and check out the vendors! Don’t forget to say “hi” to Big Tex!

Price: $16, adults; $12, kids and seniors.

When: 10 am-10 pm all weekend.


Saturday: Pancake and Booze Art Show

Enjoy pancakes? What about booze and art? Then head out to the Pancake and Booze Art Show hosted by The Prophet Bar. This event is 21 and up and $5 to get in. Enjoy a free pancake bar, live body painting and over 70 artist’s work on display.

Price: $5.

When: 8 pm-2 am Sat., Oct. 1.


Sunday: Rangers vs Rays

As September comes to a close and October begins, the Rangers will play their last game of the season this Sunday at Globe Life Park. Grab a hot dog and a friend, and watch your favorites as the Rangers close out the season on Fan Appreciation Day.

Price: $13-$111.

When: 2 pm Sun., Oct. 2.


Saturday & Sunday: Cottonwood Art Festival

Rounding out the list is the Cottonwood Art Festival in Richardson. This is the 47th year of this family friendly event. There will be plenty of food trucks on hand to satisfy your taste buds plus live music across many genres and art from local artists.

Price: Free.

When: 10 am-7 pm Sat., Oct. 1 and 10 am-5 pm Sun., Oct. 2.
