TULSA — Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby has been charged with manslaughter in the first degree, a felony, Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler announced Thursday.
Shelby fatally shot 40-year-old Terence Crutcher Friday evening after his SUV broke down in the middle of the road.
Shelby reportedly was on her way to another call when she encountered Crutcher and called for back up when Crutcher would not cooperate. Officers who joined Shelby at the scene say Crutcher was acting erratically and not following commands.
Police dash cam and helicopter cameras captured the shooting on video.
