#LeadingLadies: Pat Smith Says Second Chances are Key to Success

DALLAS -- Hillary Clinton has already made history as the first woman nominated for president by a major party. So, as we head into the November election, NewsFix is taking a look at other #LeadingLadies using their platform to inspire others.

Women such as Pat Smith.

Most know her as NFL legend Emmitt Smith's wife, but she's far more than that!

"It's not just about being someone's wife; we're partners. And if God is giving us the platform, we can use it for good," Smith explained.

The mother of five has managed to tackle ministry, motivational speaking and philanthropy. She's the head of Pat Smith Enterprises and Treasure You. The two organizations raise awareness on breast cancer and domestic violence while inspiring women to face challenges thrown their way, something the 45-year-old has plenty experience with.

"I  know what it's like to lose a loved one," she added. "I know what it's like to have dreams of your own, but it's overshadowed by life, kids, family, work. I know what it's like not to take care of yourself."

Every year, Smith teams up with her husband to host a special gala benefiting children's education. Her lengthy resume was recently documented on her OWN reality show, Mrs. & Mr. Smith.

"I've always been a little leery about reality shows because some of them are so negative that it hurts me, especially the ones where women are fighting. I was open to it because it was about our family and it was about marriage."

Don't expect Pat to fall off her game anytime soon. She recently put a pen to paper to release her first book, Second Chances, a memoir of personal experience and excerpts from other women who've managed to turn life's hardships into positive outcomes.

"When I was writing it, I was thinking back to that Pat in her 20's. The book is about turning your misery into ministry or your pain into passion!"
