At long last we’ve got a few peeks into the premiere of The Vampire Diaries Season 8, and it’s a new spin on an old trick.
Photos from the premiere, titled Hello Brother, seem to be taking the show back to the basics with a good, old-fashioned highway hold up. It’s been a long time since Damon (Ian Somerhalder) pulled his typical “body in the road” vampire stunt to lure an unsuspecting couple to their deaths, but he’s still got it in him.
This time around, Damon’s got Enzo (Michael Malarkey) by his side to help catch a meal. Vampires who murder together stay together, we guess.
We’ve also got a photo of Stefan (Paul Wesley) wearing what Caroline (Candice King) would call his “serious vampire face.” Personally, we call it his “I need a hug from Caroline, stat” face.
It’s also hard not to notice he’s likely at Damon and Enzo’s latest crime scene, and the blurry background would suggest that they’ve turned one of their victims into a macabre hood ornament. We’re not sure even a hug from Caroline could cheer Stefan up after seeing something like that.
We’re also a little nervous about Caroline and Alaric’s (Matt Davis) co-parenting relationship moving forward. The single still of them seems to hint at tension between the former couple.
After Caroline decided to leave Alaric to return to Stefan, we can’t imagine he’s too happy with his former baby-mama, and we’re less than optimistic about how these two will tackle the task of parenting the twins now that Caroline is presumably no longer living under the same roof as them.
The most interesting new photo, however, is that of the new nanny, Seline (Kristen Gutoskie).
Seline will be juggling Alaric’s twins while also figuring out where exactly she fits into Mystic Falls. From what we hear, she might find her perfect fit in Alaric’s arms.
While we’re 100 percent on board with Alaric finally getting his happily ever after with a sweet, normal human, we can’t help but think Seline looks a little… young? The pastel wardrobe and frilly tank-top might be coloring our perception here, but we wouldn’t put her a day over 25.
Maybe it’s not an issue for Alaric since he was just head over heels for his 23-year-old surrogate, but we were kind of hoping for someone more age appropriate this time around.
The Vampire Diaries returns Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. on CW33.
