Israeli Student Claims Discrimination at School

HOUSTON, TX -- Eliav Terk says he never thought he'd be discriminated against at school. Not to mention the school's international festival, of all places.

"It's really just a fun event that unfortunately this year took a negative turn," says Terk. "A group of students who went to the Middle East booth and they took all the Israeli flags that were on the banner and proceeded to shed them up through the day or cover the flags with the Iranian or Palestinian Flag."

Terk didn't actually attend the festival this year - but other Jewish students did - and told him about it. That's when he complained to administrators -- to no avail.

So he got the attention of the legal team at Stand With Us - a pro-Israel advocacy group - and filed a complaint with the HISD.

In a statement HISD said, in part, "School officials handled the situation as a disciplinary matter and will handle any similar incidents according to the HISD student code of conduct."

"They are going to take steps to better protect students and to make sure something like this doesn't happen again,"said Terk.

And that's all he says he wanted in the first place: proper protection against religious harassment according to HISD's own playbook.
