It’s an interesting time to be a member of the team on Arrow. After all, the team has been narrowed down to only two people — Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) — who used to be engaged. That’s a recipe for an awkward situation if ever there was one.
When Season 5 of Arrow kicks off though, they’re on a mission. Of course, they might disagree on what that mission is. “Felicity wants a new team and Oliver wants the old team back together,” Amell tells Zap2it. “That’s sort of the crux of their point/counterpoint in the early part of the year.”
In the short term, Felicity is definitely going to win that battle as she and Oliver are going to have a new squad to prepare for taking their vigilante justice to the streets. That doesn’t mean the task will come easy, though.
“The problem is new recruits need training. They are green. They are so green,” Rickards explains. “It definitely complicates things, ’cause everything we had before was such a smooth-sailing machine.”
It’s going to take work to re-create that machine though, as Rickards teases her new squad is a bit too invested in getting the team’s objective accomplished while “they’re so stuck in their own ways.” “You want to be able to bring [their] goals together and be like, ‘It’s all one goal,'” she says. “Sometimes that takes a little bit more time to break down that aspect of it.”
Arrow returns Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. on CW33.
