Channing Tatum is set to star in a remake of the hit Splash, which starred Tom Hanks in 1984 as Allen Bauer and Daryl Hannah as his mermaid girlfriend, Madison.

But this new version, being made for a second time by Disney Touchstone Pictures, has a twist. Tatum, 36, will be playing the mermaid. Merman? Jillian Bell, 32, is taking the Hanks role of love-struck human.

And it keeps getting better. Imagine Entertainment’s Ron Howard directed and Brian Grazer produced the original Splash. Both are back for the remake.

If only John Candy and Dody Goodman were still around! Candy played Hanks’ playboy brother and business partner Freddie in the movie; Dody Goodman played the lovable receptionist who’d been hit by lightning. Eugene Levy played nemesis Walter Kornbluth.

This is not the first time Tatum and Bell have worked together on a remake. Both were in 22 Jump Street, the sequel to  21 Jump Street, which also starred Jonah Hill.
