DALLAS -- These days, you can't really buy anything with a dollar.

But if you were in the DFW area Thursday, it would be enough to get you into the zoo!

It was dollar day, bringing parents and kiddos out in full force to the Dallas Zoo. Last year, a whopping 41,000 visitors showed up and this year they're hoping to break that record.

"I’m a stay-at-home mom and so we always look for good deals to take the kids out to places," Amy Ray said. "Dollar Day is always a must for us."

Now, we're in Texas and we know it's hot, but even the idea of hitting triple digits didn't stop people from getting some sunshine.

Jasmine Robinson says, "I froze some grapes last night and (put) water in the freezer. So there's plenty of water, brought the kids swim shoes because they have a wonderful water area here and so that's how we're keeping cool and came prepared.”

And since the zoo is a Pokémon stop, you could hunt for some of the elusive characters you've been looking for. They even released a guide to help Pokémon trainers try to catch them all.

"They got all the stops. It’s lit. It turned up around here. Everything, spots everywhere, Pokémon popping out. Pow-pow,” said Pokemon Go user Devante Traylor.

Even though the adorable two-month old elephant, Ajabu, isn't ready for his big reveal yet, checking out flamingos and African penguins was the best way to spend a dollar today.
