Stephen Amell Just Read Arrow Episode 5-01 And He’s Dropping Major Teases

“Arrow” hasn’t even begun production on Season 5 yet, but thanks to star Stephen Amell, fans can now have a better idea of what to expect when the series returns.

Amell posted a Facebook Live video of himself working out and talking about the new season, taking questions from fans that he used to he drop some pretty epic kinds about what’s to come.

The premiere is going to be very violent

According to Amell, stunt coordinator James Bamford will be returning to direct the first two episode of Season 5 and from the sound of it, things are going to get scary.

“Episode 501 of Arrow has an opportunity for us to quite literally have the most vicious, violent oner shot, which is where there is no cut, in the history of network television,” he says. And Amell himself will be doing the action, rather than his stunt double.

The actor continues, “I insisted that it’s going to be me, no stunt double. And he says, ‘Fine, then you gotta do it shirtless.’”

There’s another new Arrow suit

“New Arrow suit this year, by the way,” Amell teases. “Or a slightly-modified version.”

He doesn’t say what’s different about it. Given the major revamp the costume went through to kick off Season 4 though, chances are the look won’t be all that different. In other words, Oliver will still likely have no sleeves.

A mystery character is returning

It’s time to put on your thinking caps to figure out who Amell is talking about when he says, “We do get to see someone we haven’t seen in two full seasons.”

There are so many characters that could fit the bill, so start digging to find out who will be back.

Black Canary is back … sort of

No, Katie Cassidy won’t be returning to Arrow as the Black Canary, but that doesn’t mean her spirit isn’t alive and well in Star City. “The idea of Black Canary and what it means and what it embodies in Star City is something we are going to examine this year,” Amell says.

Oliver’s finally starting to show his age

When you see Mayor Oliver Queen taking office, he’s going to look a bit different — his hair is going grey. “You know what’s going to be making an appearance on Arrow this year?” Amell asks. “My salt and pepper hair.”

It seems that the actor shaved his hair off at the end of Season 5 and it grew back grey, which he quite enjoys. Given everything Oliver has gone through in his life, it should come as a surprise to nobody that he’s going grey.

Arrow returns Wednesday, Oct. 5 on CW33.
