OAK CLIFF -- Cookies and brownies and doodles, oh my! That's the first thing you're likely to say when you walk in the Kessler Baking Studio in Oak Cliff.

From the smell to the aesthetic to the goodies, even the cookie jars -- everything kind of reminds you of home, which is where it all began for owner Clyde Greenhouse.

"Influencing me were both my parents," Greenhouse told NewsFix. "They were both great cooks and bakers. A lot of people walk in here and they tell me that they immediately think of their mother and their grandmother."

And how could you not? With treats like the Chocolate Brownie PB Delight, the Kessler Doodle, and the E-lemonader. But the fan favorite has to be the XL Chocolate Pecan Brownie with pecans in the batter and toasted on top!

"I think the perfect brownie has a balance of chocolate and flour," Greenhouse said. "Our brownies are pretty fudgy."

Chew on This: Kessler Baking Studio is a participant in North Texas Black Restaurant week, which is going on from now - through Father's Day.

"It's an important event," Greendhouse said. "A lot of people aren't aware of the small African-American owned businesses in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, so it kind of puts them on center stage. For the event, I'm offering a buy one dozen cookies, get a half dozen free."

Pretty sweet deal!

"When I'm baking, everything goes into it," Greenhouse said. "So it comes out in the product, I think. One of our mottos here is that you can't buy happiness, but you can buy a cookie -- and that's kind of the same thing."
