FORT WORTH -- “In sickness and in health”, it's perhaps the most important promise made in a couple's wedding vows and some are forced to put it to the test sooner than others. That’s the situation Don and Susan Gregory found themselves in.

Don has been in the intensive care unit of Texas Health Huguley Hospital in Fort Worth with an unknown illness for the past two weeks.

"He got very ill, suddenly, very ill,” explains Susan. “This was someone who was previously very healthy and every organ in his body was affected."

That's normally bad enough news by itself but what makes the situation even more stressful for the couple is that they had originally planned on getting married Friday. At first, they decided to postpone the wedding due to the circumstances but now the couple has decided to move on with the wedding day, in the ICU!

"He's made a miraculous recovery and now I'm planning on spending the rest of my life with him," says Susan.

Mandy, Susan's step-daughter, appreciates the impact Susan has had in her father's life, "I'm so thankful that Susan was able to come in and step into his life and bring that love to his life. There's a difference between the love you have from your family and the love you have from a single person that's your other half."

The two were officially married by their longtime friend. The groom was left speechless by the staff at the hospital who helped make his special day a reality. "What happened here tonight is a bunch of good people came together to help me out,” said Don “Words can't express how I feel."

Now let's leave these newlyweds alone, they've more than earned it.
