LOS ANGELES -- If imitation is truly the greatest form of flattery, then a former NBA superstar who made the number 23 synonymous with greatness must be crying tears of joy right now.

That's because the new king of the NBA is set to follow Michael Jordan into outer space via "Space Jam 2."

Yep, the sequel has been rumored for years now and picked up steam last summer when LeBron James and his entertainment company signed a deal with Warner Brothers.

Excitement for the remake is now out of this world since it was announced that Justin Lin of "Fast & Furious" fame would be directing the movie. This won't be Lin's first trip into space. He also directed this summer's anticipated blockbuster "Star Trek Beyond."

This also won't be LeBron's first experience with the big screen. He received critical acclaim for his role in last year's "Rom-Com Trainwreck."

Let's just hope he's as good as MJ in the original.

Hmm... we wonder who will follow in the other MJ's footsteps for the theme song.
