Spice of Blythe: Time for a Picnic

DALLAS -- The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and that can only mean one thing: Spring is in the air, and it's time to go out on picnics!

One of my favorite things growing up was going out with my family to the park.  We'd bring the dogs, we'd bring a big basket of food, and we'd really just celebrate each other.

Picnics are always fun because you can bring food you already have, or make something special.

Ready for some examples?

How about a nice big turkey, cooked slow and low all day, basted in honey and sugar, and ready to be carved!

Or a macaroni salad!  I like to replace the mayo with some cheese and bacon.

Speaking of cheese: you can't go wrong with some cheese and crackers.  My picnic preference is Colby Jack... but any cheesy choice you make is sure to be the right one!

And what picnic is complete without potato salad?  You can make it German style, Texas style -- however you want -- but to do it Blythe Beck style, you'll need some spicy pepper, bacon, and onions.

Whatever you bring to eat, make sure you put away the phones, the computers, the emails, the work...

My Spice of Blythe is: get away from all of it.  Unplug, relax, and spend some quality time with your family and friends, because that is what really matters most in this world.
