DUNCANVILLE, TX — Captain. President. Natural Born Leader. Yeah, that’s Esteban Andrade in a nutshell, and it’s what makes him our Class Act of the Week, brought to you by Time Warner Cable.

Esteban is a senior at Duncanville High where he is the captain of the school’s Cross Country team. Although, if it wasn’t for his speed at soccer practice, he never would’ve even joined.

“Before the season started, everyday we would condition and we would run a mile and I would either overlap everyone or I would just leave them way behind,” said Esteban. “And cross country would be practicing on the side. One day they wanted to talk to me, and they asked me if I would like to join the team!”

And Esteban never looked back, leading Duncanville to two district championships, but that’s not where his leadership stops. He’s also the student body president.

“I try to motivate everyone I can. I try to be the best role model for them. I feel like I should be the person in the future to make a change in those kids. I want to inspire teenagers.”

Yeah, he’s a role model alright, but he’s smart enough to give credit where it’s due.

“I think God has to do a lot with this. I pray every night and every morning for him to help me,” Esteban said emotionally. “My parents always told me, they raised me to be the best and even though I may not be the best, I strive to be my best. I don’t mind doing everything, even though I get tired and go to sleep late sometimes and wake up early in the mornings to go run. I don’t mind all that because I think in the end it might be worth it.”

Well, from where we’re sitting, it totally is worth it.
