SAN ANTONIO -- A new year means new destinations to check off your travel bucket list. You know, exotic places like Hawaii, Japan, Australia and San Antonio. Wait, San Antonio???

No, we're serious, the vacation site Budget Travel unveiled its Top 24 World Destinations for 2016 and the Alamo City came in second on the list... in the world!

The site praised San Antonio's obvious attractions like the River Walk and its seafood, even though it's not anywhere near the beach. They also note this year is the 180th anniversary of the Battle at the Alamo and the 125th anniversary of the arts and culture celebration Fiesta!

They also shout-out budget hotels right next to all the action. San Antonio beat out three other American cities -- Los Angeles, Cincinnati and Asheville -- to take the top spot for the USA. San Antonio was also ranked ahead of places like Rio de Janeiro, Rome, the Galapagos Islands, and even Greece!

Newly accessible Cuba came in third on the list with its architecture, classic mid-century cars and breathtaking scenery.

But the place that gave the cold shoulder to the rest of the list? Number one Iceland, it offers unbelievable waterfalls and black sand beaches to the curious globetrotter traveling on the cheap.
