DALLAS -- Dallas is no stranger to showing up on "Best Of" lists, but this one came as a bit of a surprise. The real estate website RealtyTrac.com compiled a nationwide list of ZIP codes with good schools, and they listed Dallas ZIP code 75217 as one of the top 10 most affordable.

It came in number six!

So, where the heck is 75217?  Well, it's located in southeast Dallas, and most of it is in Pleasant Grove.

We know what you're probably thinking, isn't that, you know, a pretty rough part of town?  It doesn't exactly have a reputation for living up to its name.  Or of being very safe.

"I've heard that reputation," said Deputy Chief Paul Stokes of the Dallas PD.  "Pleasant Grove not being a safe place to live and work, but I would disagree with you."

Deputy Stokes heads up the Southeast Division of the DPD -- the division that patrols that 75217 ZIP.

"The Dallas police officers work very hard to make Pleasant Grove safe," said Stokes. "In fact last year, at the end of 2014, we saw a 15% crime reduction."

Hey, not bad!

It also has Nova Academy, which the RealtyTrac survey calls a "good school" with 2014 test scores "at least one-third higher than the state average."

The website also claims the percent of average wages to buy a median-priced home in Pleasant Grove is only 10%.  Now that's pleasant!

So, would Chief Stokes recommend moving here? "I would encourage people to come to Pleasant Grove," he told NewsFix.  "It's a great place to live, it's a great place for me to work, it's just a great part of the city."

Well hey, who knew?!  Maybe there's more to some neighborhoods than their bad raps.
