FORT WORTH - Off the track and in the sky...  The red bull air race took off over Texas Motor Speedway Sunday.

“You can really feel it, these guys are flying really fast,” says fan Leo Smith.

“I’ve never seen an airplane flying this close,” added friend Yun Lim

This was Texas native Kirby Chambliss’ chance at redemption. He’s a two time world champion but last year at TMS he was eliminated in the first round.

“I’m in Texas, I want to win here and I’m just going to go out rely put the pedal to the medal as they say,” he told Newsfix last week during his race prep.

Kirby matched up with Martin Sonka from the Czech Republic. The fastest time through the course moves on to the quarterfinals. the anticipation was palpable as the pilots took to the sky...

But unfortunately Kirby lost time at the beginning and was never able to make it up. He was knocked out once again, in the first round.

Hey, there is always next year.
