ADDISON, TX -- Some North Texas kids were all smiles on Saturday.

The Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities teamed up with DECA Dental to provide free dental screenings to over 300 area children.

The event was held at George H.W. Bush Elementary in Addison. The school's gym was converted into a huge dental office, as dentists examined their young patients.

In addition to the free screenings, DECA Dental is also providing ongoing treatments to patients for the next six months.

Dallas Cowboys legend and Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith says the event is an opportunity to give back to his community.

"I think it's important for people to give back to our community to do something, and do it in their own way," Smith told NewsFix.

"Some people do it in a volunteering way, where they volunteer their time, some people do it by investing in the community - some people get involved with charities like ours and provide resources, relationships and others so we can continue to do the work we're doing to touch the community that are in need."

"It's always uplifting to take your mind off yourself and uplift others. It's a rewarding feeling when you see a smile on someone else and touch someone's life in a nice way."
