PLANO -- Friends and family gathered in Plano to say a final farewell to Ben Baker. The 18-year-old was killed in a car crash over the weekend.

Cops say he lost control of his Chevy Tahoe and hit a light pole on Tennyson Parkway. Witnesses rushed to the scene, hoping to rescue Ben and his best friend, 18-year-old Payton Muschock.

They managed to pull Payton out, but the SUV burst into flames before Ben could be rescued.

Both were recent grads of Plano West High School. Ben was planning to attend Baylor University this fall.

At last check, a GoFundMe page has raised over $17,000 to cover Ben's funeral expenses and Payton’s hospital bills as he recovers from a severe leg injury.

Tuesday night from 6pm-11pm, Ben's co-workers at Bahama bucks held a benefit.

“100% of our proceeds will go to Ben`s family,” Ben’s co-worker Lesly Gutierrez explained. “It's the one thing we felt to do to get some closure and show how much we really love Ben.”
