DALLAS — Who doesn’t love a nice cold brew, right?  Well, turns out making beer is so hot right now that Eastfield College in Mesquite is offering a certification program. It’s called the “Journeyman Brewer Certificate.”

Master brewer and Journeyman Brewer instructor Peter Boettcher says the program will cover everything from the raw materials to filtration and packaging.  Students will learn brewing theory in class, then spend time at local craft breweries to get hands-on experience.

One of those breweries is Texas Ale Project in Dallas.  Co-founder and brewer Brent Thompson gave NewsFix a tour and taught us that making beer is complicated.

Thompson and Boettcher both point out that craft brewing is an extremely fast-growing industry.

“It’s very, very important that the operators and the brewers have a standard base knowledge of what they’re actually doing,” Boettcher said.

“I wish that there was a program like this available in Texas when I first started,” said Thompson.

Well, now there is and that’s worth drinking to.
