CARROLLTON, TX --It's not the news any parent wants to hear.

Yet, on Saturday, Jim Boulware, father of the gunman who opened fire on DPD cops, which resulted in a standoff, had to face that reality.

Boulware spoke candidly about his son's involvement in one of the biggest news stories in the country.

"I was still laying in bed and all of a sudden, I started getting calls from my kid," Boulware explained. "When I came in and called him back, I found out that James had done something."

Boulware says his son had just visited the night before the shooting.

"I still didn't want to believe it was him. When he left here last night, he was going to his friend's in West Texas."

"He was just here yesterday. He mowed my yard, edged it for me. He said he was coming back in 10 days to do it again."

Boulware says he immediately recognized his son's armored van. We're told James Boulware had just purchased the van in Georgia.

His father is at a loss - over his son and for understanding. He's now left to mourn his son, confused and saddened by his actions.

"I knew he had some anger at the police; he blamed them for taking his son away," Boulware said. "I didn't even know he had a gun with him."

"How do you feel when you lose a son?"

"I don't condone what he did. I can't condemn the police for shooting back. I don't know what happened."
