DALLAS, TX - It’s not exactly the scene folks living and socializing near Dallas Police headquarters expected to encounter early Saturday morning.
“There was a really loud boom,” says Southside on Lamar resident Edward Vasquez. “It sounded like an explosion it kind of shook the ground a little bit. There was a huge cloud of white smoke.”
The sounds of shots fired startled some out of their sleep and out of their homes.
"I think it was around 4 am, two police officers came and said this is a mandatory evacuation for all lofts facing Lamar Street.” says resident Michael Needleman
Folks were kept at bay through the night and into mid-morning, as cops investigated the dangerous scene suspect James Boulware left behind.
With so many who call the area of Lamar Street home, cops say safety safety was their main priority, and folks here agreed.
"Hopefully one comes away with a greater appreciation for what these men and women do on a daily basis, because most of us have no clue,” says Needleman
