DALLAS — If you rolled out of bed late and headed to Whataburger for your daily breakfast, you were in for a rude awakening! Whataburger has had to cut back their breakfast hours from the 12 hours a day we all know and love, to an abbreviated 5 to 9 in the morning.
Now where can we go for 2 a.m. taquitos?
It’s all thanks to a nationwide egg shortage as a result of a massive outbreak of the avian flu. And it’s not just the Texas-based burger joint that’s feeling the sting of this egg-pocalypse.
“We do breakfast from 6 o’clock in the morning all day long and so far all we’ve really seen is a price increase. It’s about double what we were paying,” said Bill Ziegler, the director of operations at Norma’s Cafe. “So it’s a significant increase for us but at the same time other things have gone down and we’ve always found that it’ll all just work out in the end if we just take care of the guest.”
So, it’s not the end of the world!
Whataburger says they are doing everything in their power to get a full supply of eggs back in their stores.
But you know, with our streets still flooding, Blue Bell still off the shelves, and now Whataburger cutting back their hours, it sure feels like some kind of Texas Doomsday!
