DALLAS - Lucy’s countdown clock to “Doggie Death Row” started ticking right after this stray was dumped at the Dallas Animal Shelter.

“It literally said on her paperwork as soon as her stray hold is up, we need to euthanize because she is in such horrible, horrible pain,” said Leslie Sans, Executive Director of Dallas Pets Alive!

With parasites and scars all over her body, it also looked like she’d been bred over and over. But it didn’t stop there. Dallas Pets Alive! thinks all signs point to Lucy being a “bait dog.”

“The horrible individuals in the world who do dogfighting, they train the fighting  dogs using bait dog,” Sans said. “She had teeth pulled or shaved down that way she couldn’t bite the other dogs.”

Bringing Lucy back hasn’t been easy. It took surgeries, medication and lots of tender love and care.

“She has taken literally months to get to the point where she is even close to being adoptable,” explained Sans.

Now, this “girl with kaleidoscope eyes” just wants to find a nice place to relax.

“She is about 10 years old, so she is a senior girl and she just wants to live out the rest of her days in a happy loving home.”
