DALLAS - The origin story of Zack and Zelda remains classified by Dallas Animal Services. But when they arrived at the shelter, it was clear things had gone very wrong in their first home.

“Zack and Zelda came in looking extremely, extremely neglected,” said Suleika Bloom, fundraising director for Dallas Pets Alive! “They were just puppies that were completely hairless. You couldn’t really tell what kind of animal they were you couldn’t tell what breed they were.”

A monstrous case of mange was making life miserable.

“Just looking at their pictures, it’s just heartbreaking,” Bloom said. “They look like they don't have any hope at all.”

Dallas Pets Alive! put these two into a foster home, but their training was just beginning.

“They couldn’t be outside for very long because their skin was exposed. It was a little more intense than just any foster,” Bloom explained.

After months of rest and recovery, Zack and Zelda were ready to go on their quest” for a “fur-ever” home. Even though they are siblings, these two are ready to strike out on their own.

“Zack is a little more outgoing. He's vivacious, super playful. He loves to play fetch,” said Bloom. “Zelda however is a little more reserved. She’s not necessarily shy. She is just calm and sweet and loves one on one attention.”

Zelda has completed her “triforce” and has already been adopted. But Zack is still waiting to be “linked” to his hero.
