TIKRIT, IRAQ – Iraqi government forces and Iranian Sunni militiamen are closing in on Tikrit, the hometown of Sadaam Hussein now under the control of Islamic State fighters. Tikrit is the first major city in northern Iraq that coalition forces have tried to take back from ISIS.

This is an Iraqi-run operation, with no help requested from the United States or other coalition nations.
