SURPRISE, AZ — While winter is bearing its ice-cold teeth in North Texas, but DFW’s boys of summer are heating up out in Surprise, Arizona.
Yep, baseball season is just around the corner, and the Rangers new manager, Jeff Banister, couldn’t be more excited about his first days on the job.
“Short of getting married and having my two kids, this is one of the most exciting days of my life really,” Banister said.
You could say Banister is birthing a new mentality as the club tries to turn a new page after a disastrous season.
“My message was to embrace it,” the new manager said. “Shut the door on 2014, understand where it was, what is was about, and that this was day one of phase one.”
“I feel very happy with the way the way things have come out,” left handed pitcher Derek Holland said. “It was a great off-season with all the guys I was with we worked our tails off and we’re ready to go.”
Well, unfortunately for the team, 2014’s injury bug has already bitten again. Jurickson Profar will have to undergo shoulder surgery on Monday and Texas could be saying adios to him for the entire 2015 season.
Still, with a new captain in the dugout and a bunch of familiar faces returning, there’s reason to hope that these guys could still be playing when October rolls around.
