FORT WORTH — So, this is what happens when the Fort Worth Food Bank says it’s giving away free turkeys!
“All the excitement you see right now is a food pantry,” explained Executive Director Regina Smith. “It’s where we’re giving people food directly!”
There’s nothing like a free meal, especially on a holiday when eating and giving back are most celebrated.
Brooklyn Messersmith is volunteering at the pantry this year and says, “the new experience is refreshing.”
This is day two and the Food Bank has handed out turkeys with all the trimmings to at least 3,000 families in need! That’s 1,000 more than last year.
Folk standing in line told us:
“This [The Food Bank] place has been a life saver for us throughout out the year when we don’t have food.”
“It’s going to help my family; I’ve been out of work for almost a year.”
“My husband died three years ago and I don’t have a job, just trying to make ends meet.”
Well, here’s some food for thought — even when times are tough, don’t lose sight of tradition.
“They don’t want ribs they don’t want a brisket, they want a turkey,” added Smith.
