FORT WORTH, TX -- Let’s face it – icy conditions plus North Texas roads often equals disaster for drivers.

Who could forget last year’s dreaded arctic blast, and that blasted ‘cobblestone ice’? Yeah, that wasn’t fun.

So, as DFW braces for yet more wintery weather, TxDot saysit’s ready to roll out and keep our roads safe.

"That cobblestone ice event that we had last season really was generational event," Val Lopez with TxDot explained. "When it comes to your typical North Texas winter storm, we are well prepared for that. We’ll have crews working around the clock, 24-7.”

Before the temps drop and the frozen stuff starts to fall, TxDot crews get to work. TxDot says it preps for polar conditions months in advance – stocking up on supplies and materials.

"TxDot has many options as far as to deice our roadways – we have brine, we have salt, sand we have a combination of those items. We have a salt-based deicer that we use. These are all tools in our toolbox that we use with this kind of weather moves in and we go out there and treat our bridges and overpasses. It’s going to be our bridges and overpasses that’ll be most vulnerable to this icy weather,” Lopez said.

Remember, even with treated roadways – the best advice is to take it slow in the snow.
