(Dallas) Hercules’ early years are shrouded in myth and mystery. But it looks like his first owner was a hoarder.

“He had some characteristics of coming from a hoarder's home, even possibly that he smelled like it,” says Dallas Pets Alive fundraising director Suleika Bloom. ”Which means not very good.”

Hercules may have been thrown out with the trash. Either way, smelly and hungry, Hercules wasn’t exactly holding the world on his shoulders.

“He was so skinny, bless his little heart,” says Bloom. “He weighed three pounds less than he does now, which is a lot considering he’s such a tiny dog.”

But once Dallas Pets Alive! got him out of the shelter and got some food in his belly, this Chihuahua mix started to perk up.

“We're not quite sure what he`s mixed with; we joke that he could be part Lemur,” says Bloom. “He pops his head up and he has this look on his face and these dark circles around his eyes.”

Hercules is a dapper dresser as well.

“He always wears a bow-tie, because he loves to impress the ladies,” says Bloom.

Now this “Greek god” is looking for a home, without a hoarder, to call his own.

“I think he would go great with a myriad of families,” says Bloom. “He’s just the funniest, quirkiest little guy."
