DALLAS, TX -- Their words, their experiences, their life.
One group of performers aren't actors; they’re real people, sharing their real stories, and they’re taking center stage in the raw and revealing show, Oral Fixation.
“It’s like theater, but unlike a play, where it’s an actor, in a costume, reading a playwright’s words, it’s the person who actually went through an experience, sharing it straight from the horse’s mouth,” Nicole Stewart said.
The concept was created by Stewart. “I’m really interested in a variety of points of view. I want our seven-person cast to reflect the demographic of Dallas.”
The actress turned producer and director says the monthly series, which features a revolving cast of performers, aims to connect the community through shared experiences. Every month show has a theme; this month’s theme: Train Wreck.
"Just my struggles with school and how that’s affected my life, going into being an adult and starting a family,” performer Bri Crum said of her story.
"I speak all the time in front of people, but it’s all about business; and it’s their problem, not mine," performer Linda Thomas jokingly said about her involvement with the project.
Crum and Thomas are two castmembers who shed their inhibitions to share their intimate side. "In my head, I have this mindset of closing this chapter with this story, and moving on the next rollercoaster in my life,” Crum explained.
"It positively focused me for the rest of my life – I learned what I was capable of, and what I should avoid. So, it’s like growing up,” Thomas added.
Oral Fixation is an emotional exploration for the soul – a show that exposes the similarities, even among strangers.
"In all my years of acting, I never got the same feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment than I’ve gotten in giving others the chance to express themselves through their stories," Stewart said.
