FORT WORTH, TX —President Jimmy Carter was working hard for Habitat for Humanity Monday.
“The homeowners are working side-by-side with us on our house and throughout the project,” he said.
It’s all part of the 31st annual Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. They are in the area to repair and build more than 100 homes in DFW in just one week.
Hundreds of friends stopped by, and even a few Dallas Cowboys helped out. Country stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood lent a helping hand as well.
“And I don’t want him on the roof anymore. If anybody tries to put him up there, I’m going to protest,” former First lady, Rosalynn Carter said.
“We’ve been trying to keep up with the Carters,” Trisha Yearwood said.
This is more than a project for Henry Wills.
“Never in my life would I thought I’d get a chance to not only meet him but work on the side with him. I’m working with the President and Garth Brooks. It’s just good. I’m excited,” Wills said.
Wills and his wife will be calling this building, home.
“At a young age, I’ve always wanted to own my own home, but through bad choices and bad decisions, but now, God is good.”
“I tried not to cry when the lady said, ‘we will all meet again. She’s a devout Christian, believes it man, that just tore me up. I love that stuff,” Garth Brooks said.
“And when the families start weeping with joy, almost invariably, we cry as well. It is one of the happiest times for crying that I've ever experienced,” President Carter added.
Well said, Mr President. Pass the tissue anyone?
