HOUSTON, TX — He’s a father who was accused of murdering the drunk driver who killed his two sons back in 2012. Now, David Barajas is a free man.

Jurors Wednesday found him not guilty of killing 20-year-old Jose Banda.

Police say Barajas shot and killed Banda in December of 2012, in a fit of rage. Revenge after Banda plowed into a vehicle Barajas and his two sons were pushing on a rural road in Alvin, about 30 miles southeast of Houston.

The two boys, 11 and 12 years old, were killed in the accident.

If Barajas had been convicted, he faced a potential life sentence.

No doubt, living the rest of his life without his two son is itself, a life-long sentence. But it’s important not to forget that three sons were lost that day — the two Barajas boys and Jose Banda.

Drinking and driving is deadly. We don’t need reminders like this one.
